The Crime of Father Amaro
Synopsis
Based on the homonymous novel by Eça de Queirós (published in 1875, amid great controversy and protests from the Catholic Church), "The Crime of Father Amaro" is a series of 6 episodes of 45 minutes each.
The plot is set in the Portuguese city of Leiria, in the late 1860s, and follows the story of a forbidden love between Amaro, a young priest, and Amélia, "the most beautiful girl in Leiria". Tense, emotional and anchored in personality conflicts, the series "The Crime of Father Amaro" offers an ever-current vision of human relationships and of a hypocritical and puritanical society of the 19th century.
